Hollyhock Supports Rotary Club of Ashland
Hollyhock Studio participated in a fundraiser held at Camelot Theatre last fall to support the Rotary Club of Ashland. The evening was a great success - everyone enjoyed good conversations, fantastic food and wine, and the opportunity to participate in raffle baskets and a live auction. The evening culminated with a performance of The Manchurian Candidate and amazing desserts.

Margaret Scanlan
Margaret is a multi-talented artist who is from Knoxville, TN. She is a full-time studio artist who has worked in the field for more than thirty-five years. Scanlan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Webster University and a graduate degree from the University of Tennessee. She is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society, the National Watercolor Society and the Watercolor USA Honor Society. She has won numerous regional and national awards. Her work is exhibited and held in private, corporate, and museum collections in the U.S. and Europe. Her band, Red-Haired Mary, sings and plays Irish and Celtic songs and tunes in the Irish Pub Band tradition, both locally and regionally, throughout Tennessee and North Carolina. Margaret’s resume is filled with accomplishments in a multitude of areas. But as most of us know an accomplished artist does not always translate to a competent teacher. Her ability as an educational leader in the art world is supported by her twenty year tenure with the renowned John C Campbell Folk School in North Carolina. I can speak first hand about this ability as I was recently a student in Margaret’s class. I observed Margaret as an exception rather than the norm in the instructional art world. Her calm and witty personality shines through as she unfolds her thoughtful instruction. She just “gets it” on every level. Margaret’s class will rank in my top all time art experiences!
